5 Abortion Bills Filed in Special Session 2 So Far

The rally is in full swing on the steps of the pink dome in Austin. Cecile Richards is speaking, and it is always great to have a Richards woman speaking at the capitol!

Just checked Texas Legislature Online (TLO), and there are now five bills filed. So far, as of 1:15 on Monday, July 1st, only HB2 and SB9 have text, but it is safe to say that we’ve seen all of these bills before, in one form or another, during one session or another:

SB1 – Hegar (R-Katy): Captioned relating to the regulation of abortion procedures, providers, and facilities; providing penalties.
Most likely the twin to SB5, made famous, you may recall, during the first special session.

SB9 – Patrick (R-Houston): Captioned relating to distributing or prescribing abortion-inducing drugs; providing penalties.

HB2 – Laubenberg (R-Murphy): Captioned relating to the regulation of abortion procedures, providers, and facilities; providing penalties.

HB17 – Fletcher (R-Cypress): Captioned relating to prohibiting abortion that is based on the sex of the unborn child; creating an offense.
This bill gets filed in statehouses across the country, over and over, even though there is no evidence of women in this country using abortion to ensure they have only male or only female children.

HB18 – Krause (R- Tarrant County area): Captioned relating to the regulation of abortion procedures.
If I had to guess, I’d say this is, all or in part, similar to HB3302 filed by Krause during the regular session.
