It Bears Repeating

I know I’m not the first one to have this thought, or even the 100,000th person to have this thought. But, this is important.

Michele Bachmann’s actual quote:

“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here? Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.’ ”

First, allow me to register my robust protest against the notion that god actually makes time to speak to Michele Bachmann.

Second, allow me to register my absolute disgust, although not surprise, that she would try to leverage natural disasters to score political points. Jerry Falwell, anyone?

Third, in the fine tradition of American politics, let quickly stoop to her level to say that I believe what God is actually saying with all of these natural disasters is that Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, et al. need to stop putting words into God’s mouth and get busy taking actual care of the poor, the young, the sick, and the downtrodden.

And by “the poor, the young, the sick, and the downtrodden,” please know that I am referring to actual already-born human entities, and not corporations or blastocysts.
