Pinko Socialist Feminist Politicians Who Supported Title X

Title X funds provide low-income Americans will access to preventive health care like screenings for breast and cervical cancer, sexually-transmitted infections including HIV, and birth control. Here’s the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services description of what Title X funds and doesn’t fund. Hint: Title X funds do not cover abortions. At all. Ever.

Republicans, eager to cut the budget back to the size it was when the United States were a mere 13 colonies on the eastern seaboard, are proposing to completely eliminate Title X funding from the budget. Completely eliminate. Totally. What would that look like? Consider:

In 2009 alone, Title X providers performed  2.2 million Pap tests, 2.3 million breast exams, and over six million tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including nearly a million HIV tests. (From RH Reality Check, which has more on the proposed cuts and the impact of the program.)

Well, go GOP. Wouldn’t want people getting any early detection of breast cancer, or cervical cancer, or discovering they are HIV positive before they spread the disease to others.

It is about time the GOP showed those pinko feminist socialist politicians responsible for Title X what’s what.

Yes, pinko feminist socialists like, um, Richard Nixon:

It is my view that no American woman should be denied access to family planning assistance because of her economic condition. I believe, therefore that we should establish as a national goal the provision of adequate family planning services within the next five years to all those who want them but cannot afford them. This we have the capacity to do.*

And George H. W. Bush:

We need to make population and family planning household words. We need to take sensationalism out of this topic so that it can no longer be used by militants who have no real knowledge of the voluntary nature of the program but, rather are using it as a political steppingstone. If family planning is anything, it is a public health matter.*

Yeah, good thing the modern-day GOP is sticking it to radicals like Nixon and Bush.

Have you been watching the situation and Egypt? Wondering what would bring you out to the public square for days of protest? Well, friends, if the GOP manages to take public health and women’s rights back fifty years, will you be ready to flood the streets? Or at least flood the voting booths?

*Yes, these are actual quotes from actual Republican politicians. You can run down the cites here.
