I’ve watched bits and read pieces of Tiger Woods’ apology. My favorite part of his press conference:
Part of following this path for me is Buddhism, which my mother taught me at a young age. People probably don’t realize it, but I was raised a Buddhist, and I actively practiced my faith from childhood until I drifted away from it in recent years. [Buddhism] teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously, I lost track of what I was taught.
I wonder if Tiger would have brought his religion into the mix if the asinine anchor Brit Hume hadn’t popped off with his proselytizing pap on Fox Sunday 1/3/2010:
He is said to be a Buddhist. I don’t think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. My message to Tiger would, Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world.
Is said to be indeed. Fox journalism at its best. Feh.
