Our poodle, Judge, takes particular joy in disemboweling stuffed animals. As far as we know, he has never attempted this on an actual animal, but animal nature being what it is . . .
Our backyard is strewn with the limp, unstuffed carcasses of formerly plump beavers, elephants, and mainly squirrels. Judge loves stuffed squirrels most of all.
We pick up the sad little corpses as quickly as we can, but often, backyard scavengers get to them before we do. So, we wind up with things like this squirrels’ nest in our neighbor’s pecan tree. Ashes to ashes, squirrels to squirrels.
